Opossum

I’m opossum
in heat
scurrying to scavenge in alley
another opossum
impregnated me
I gave birth to
litter of three
didn’t smell right
so I ate them
then carried on
at dusk
walking along
looking for dead things
to eat on train track
I didn’t get away
in time
got hit by train
coyotes ate
my organs but left remains
rain, sleet, snow
fell
air got warmer
sun dried up
a lot of liquid
that was in my body
several trains
passed over me
and one time
small human
stepped on my body
told his friend later
it went crunch
like breakfast cereal.
